Garries D. Hillenburg August 31, 1955 – February 22, 2019 Garries D. Hillenburg, 63, of Mitchell, passed away on Friday February 22, 2019 at his residence. Born August 31, 1955, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles Hillenburg and Nina (Sowders) Gotwalls. He married Canda Grubb on March 6, 1976 and he survives. Garries was a retired logger, a veteran of the United States Army, and former minister of Holy Ridge Church. He was a member of the Holy Ridge Church. Surviving are his wife, Canda, of Mitchell; four children, Brandon HIllenburg, Travis Hillenburg, Crystal McLain, and Lisha Hillenburg; grandchildren, Dylan, Austin, Isaiah, Nehemiah, Ezra, Titus, Indy, Jade, Jordan, Caleb, Keelah, Carson, Braydon, Quinton, Acelyn, Cheyann, Lexi and Brian; two great-grandchildren; mother, Nina Gotwalls; two brothers, Stewart Hillenburg and Jeremy Hillenburg; and three sisters, Sherry Spencer, Sharon Harris, and Michelle Hillenburg. He was preceded in death by his father; two children, Kenneth and Garries “Spud” Hillenburg Jr.; two grandchildren, Caiden and Averil; and two brothers, Charles David and Alan Hillenburg. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Pastor Jim Bush officiating. Burial will be Mitchell City Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the service hour Thursday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Ferguson-Lee Chapel to assist the family with funeral expenses.
