David Matthew
Lee
Oct 22, 1966 — Aug 1, 2025
David Matthew Lee, 58, of Bloomington, Indiana, met his Savior face to face on August 1, 2025, after spending a few hours surrounded by loved ones at the peace-filled Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born October 22, 1966, in New Castle, Indiana, David was the beloved son of George Hugh and Carol (Matthews) Lee. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1984 and earned his degree from Johnson University in 1988, answering a lifelong call to ministry.
In 2004, David met and married the love of his life, Kelly. Together they built a home and fiercely loved their three sons—Nolan (18), Griffin (15), and Jayden (14).
For the past 34 years, David faithfully served on staff at Clear Creek Christian Church, serving youth, leading worship, facilitating small groups, and—since 2018—leading as Senior Pastor. God used David to shepherd the congregation with compassion, wisdom, humor, and humility. David was blessed to work in tandem with many trusted church elders over those years, including the current team consisting of Reed Adams, Nat Hill V, David Goodpaster, and Michael Rothrock. And it was his honor to serve alongside the church's incredible staff, made up of Chris Smith, Samantha Goodpaster, Andrew Long, Sarah Peden, and Amanda Rothrock, as they locked arms every day to make the name of Jesus greater. Under their collective leadership, Clear Creek has moved boldly into its mission of opening the eyes of generations to the hope of Christ, with a vision to be a home of hope and healing, where lives are transformed by the gospel!
David was preceded in death by his father, George Hugh Lee, and his brother-in-law, Jeremy Adkins. He is survived by his wife Kelly and sons Nolan, Griffin, and Jayden; his mother, Carol; his sisters, Julia (Greg) Grant and Kim (Glenn) Hughes; four nephews; his favorite niece; several beloved grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his in-laws, John and Karen Adkins, his brother-in-law, Chris (Marlene) Adkins, and sister-in-law, Shari (Don) Miller.
David will be remembered for his ability to listen well, shepherd hearts, and point others to Jesus. He was patient, steady, and calm. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of helping people meet Jesus, exactly where they are. He couldn't wait to get to heaven, and he wanted as many friends as possible to join him! He let people know that they mattered to him, because they matter to Jesus. All are welcome. Truly all. Because… Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clear Creek Christian Church, in honor of David's lifelong commitment to love generously, live authentically, and serve purposefully.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, 2700 E. Rogers Street, Bloomington, IN. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and again from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clear Creek Christian Church, 530 W. Church Lane, Bloomington, IN. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 12:00 noon to the service time at 1:00 pm, at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
