Gladys Mae Browning Chastain, age 84, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 19, 1936, to Chromer and Georgia (Turney) Browning in Bedford, Indiana. Gladys graduated from Bedford High School. She married Curtis Eugene Chastain May 21, 1955, in Bedford. Curtis preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2013.She was a very devoted Christian. Gladys managed the Credit Bureau in Bedford for many years. She loved being a homemaker and mother and just being Grammy. Gladys enjoyed traveling the country with her husband on their motorcycle along with family and friends. She also enjoyed camping with family and friends. And just making everyone smile and be happy. Surviving to cherish Gladys memory are her children, Steven Chastain of Bedford, Jeffrey and Lisa Chastain of Bedford, Debbie Chestnut with Terry Stevens of Springville and Amy and Bill Sowders of Bedford. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Dustin Chastain Brown and Tracy of Martinsville, Matthew Chastain of Bedford, Jason Chastain and Melanie Nowak of Bedford, Amber Chestnut Brock and husband J.D. Brock of Bedford, Ashley Chestnut Cunningham and husband John Cunningham of Bloomington, Amanda Chestnut Lawson and husband Calvin Lawson of Springville, Jacob and Kendalyn Sowders of Bedford, Molly Lagneour and Ricky Wells of Bedford; 15 great-grandchildren, Sydnie Cunningham, Suttun Cunningham, Sullivan Cunningham, Jaylyn Brock, Bransen Brock, Calvin Lawson, Cooper Lawson, Logan Blake, Garrett Blake, Lillie Chastain, Lucas Chastain, Peyton Chastain, Emily Chastain, Dylan Chastain and Waylon Wells; brother-in-law, Charlie Myers; sister-in-law, Sue Chastain; and several nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Kenny Browning, Betty Simpson, John Browning, Shirley Kindred and Marilyn Myers; grandson, David Chastain; and daughter-in-law, Taryn Chastain. Visitation for Gladys will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Homes in Bedford. The funeral service will also be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee with Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
