Stanley J. "Captain" Sommer, 85, of Bedford, passed away on December 25, 2023 at his residence. Born August 28, 1938, he was the son of Joseph and Katherine (Laber) Sommer. He married Mary Ann Hieger on May 5, 1962 and she survives.Stanley was a graduate of Parkston High School and served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the VFW, the American Legion Gillen Post #33. He was a Traffic Manager for the U.S. Government and enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and being at the Bedford Boat and Sportsmans Club.Surviving Stanley along with his wife, Mary Ann, is one daughter, Shelley (Dan) Meister; one son, Steven (Angie) Sommer; one grandson, Derek Sommer; one great-grandson, Kaiden Sommer; one sister, Eileen Miller; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Sommer.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 5th, 2023 at the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Terrance and Deacon Dave officiating.
